Distill Exhibition hosted by Design Plant is an exploration of 'Thai' identity in today's shifting sociocultural context. The curation starts by questioning the current cultural palette, using local materials, techniques and culture as a resource bank to kickstart the design. TROPISM presented our vision of distillation through the PYRITE lamp, a meditation on the impermanence of nature through the use of salt and light. In designing this collection, we began by reducing the layering of traditional batik techniques to reveal the most rudimental layer, the subtle traces of salt on fabric. Turning nature and the rhythm of the maker into the main factor dictating the pattern of the fabric.

The PYRITE lamp became a result of a collaborative efforts between the batik makers and the temporalities of nature.
